OKAY YOU GUYS. It is ALMOST FICATHON TIME -- most of the fics have been received or will be received soon. The ficathon will go live on Saturday, September 3, and like we did last year, we're doing a free-for-all round!
Here's how it works:
1. Pick one (or more) of the prompts below.
2. Write a fic of any length -- from drabble to big-bang-sized epic (if you can do that in three days, I will be incredibly impressed).
3. Send it to me at strangebrooch AT gmail DOT com AND/OR lareinenoire AT gmail DOT com by MIDNIGHT EDT on SEPTEMBER 3, i.e. Friday night/Saturday morning (if you are writing for one of us, just send it to the other one, because mods like surprises too). Use the official format for headers:
Title:
Author: [will obviously not be visible at first; I'll add them later]
Play:
Recipient:
Character(s)/Pairing(s):
Warnings: [if any; please warn for common triggers]
Rating:
Notes: [optional]
Summary:
4. Profit!
These prompts are open to anyone, regardless of whether or not you originally signed up; instead of posting claims in the comments, just pick one and write. Also, IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILED FOR YOUR FIC, DO NOT CLICK THE CUT.

In general I am very amenable to pretty much any style (except for cod-Shakespeare, which I never really enjoy, so don't try to sound like Shakespeare), and I love radical AUs and meticulous period detail both. So do not worry if you want to do research OR if you think your premise is too wacky or both!
- MY STANDARD REQUEST, IF YOU DON'T LIKE MY OTHER PROMPTS, THIS ONE WILL ALWAYS, ALWAYS MAKE ME HAPPY: Richard II - Absolutely anything about this play would ROCK. Stuff I would particularly like this time includes:
-- Richard/Aumerle in Richard's POV -- there is a lot of Richard/Aumerle, of course, but nearly all of it is from Aumerle's POV. I realize, having written it from Richard's, that this is because his POV is really hard to write. Which is why I am trying to get you to do it for me.
-- Richard/Isabel, either with indeterminately-aged play!Isabel, or historical wee!Isabel (in that case, the slash is PURELY NOMINAL because AUGH NO). Many many bonus points for references to Anne of Bohemia (because, you know, Richard/Anne = MEDIEVAL HET OTP).
- Henry IVs -- I am always fond of fic centering on Henry himself and his many many issues. Leprosy and/or self-flagellation not required but always welcome. Alternately, fic with Falstaff, who needs more love in fic, and his relationships with Hal and/or Doll Tearsheet. I have Sekrit Dreams of a conversation between Falstaff and Richard II, if you could make that happen (probably in an AU).
- King John - Fic about the Bastard. Because he rocks. Even if he is just, like, hanging out with Eleanor of Aquitaine and drinking the twelfth-century equivalent of martinis. I would read the hell out of that. Or, more seriously, something post-play about him and Hubert would be cool (slashy or not), or something with him and wee!Henry III, or seeing his (original) family after the play or something like that.

1. I would like some Richard II, please! I've written four suggested prompts, any of which or any variation thereof would make me delightfully happy. (The reason for there being four is that one is a bit history-specific and the other's an AU-related one, so I thought there should be more choice in case my writer is primarily familiar with Shakespeare and not so keen on the other reaches of RII fandom.) Here are the prompts:
(a) A bit of Richard's coronation with some SIR SIMON being his awesome protective self. And maybe jealous Henry!
(b) Aumerle/Richard on the journey that follows III.iii and is totally SKIPPED (missed a chance for some excellent slashiness there, Shakespeare!). Angst or hurt/comfort and general, you know, woe. Any rating is fine though, it doesn't at all have to be explicit slash if you'd prefer to write gen - I love all ratings of history fic! I personally tend to imagine the tall, dark Aumerle from the BBC version, because he had such amazing chemistry with Jacobi, but this is by no means something you have to stick to if you have a different mental picture. I just love Aumerle. He is awesome. :D
(d) Carlisle/Richard. I know this is totally unlikely but I have a fascination with Carlisle and would be interested to see if it could be done! Possibly on the ship back from Ireland? But any time would be fine, really.

Any or all of these prompts can be set in the play's universe or in an AU. I love both.
- 2 Henry IV/Merry Wives of Windsor - The Many Wacky Adventures of Justice Shallow. How much of what he tells Falstaff is true? Does it even matter? How on earth did he end up in Windsor after living most of his life in Gloucestershire? What happens to him after Hal becomes king?
- Richard II - Isabel fic! I want to know more about her. Feel free to age her up if that's more comfortable for you (Shakespeare and Daniel did it, after all), but I want to know what she really thinks of Richard, how she feels about his uncles and Henry, and if the minions are as creepy to her in 2.2 as they are to the audience? How much does she know about what's happening to Richard? What happens to her after the play ends? How does she feel about it?

I would like:
Overall, Richard II -- Henry IV Part I in terms of time-span, and I am content to receive any and/or all AU scenarios, EXCEPT high-school (because I am a sulky Brit). I am happy with deathfics (mostly since, you know. ROCKS FALL, EVERYONE DIES), but PLEASE no non-con. Dub-con is fine (so is badly-negotiated con), but outright rape is not something I would like to read, choose to avoid, and consider a trigger.
2. Richard II fic. ANYTHING WITH AUMERLE as long as he is not That Guy or in anyway a bad man. References to Robert de Vere loved and adored.
If writing Richard II fic, please do not ignore the importance of Anne in Richard's life, whether dead or living. If he is married at said point to Isabel, make sure to feature her, either in canon!age form or in older!form as prescribed by said play (I am very flexible on this as I consider both descriptions canon).

General: AUs are always okay (either modern/2oth or 21st century AU or in period + magic or other elements; I'm not as interested by AU in another historical period), as is any rating of slash, femslash, het, or gen. Prompts 1 & 3 lean comedy, 2 & 4 are more serious but feel free to interpret as you see fit!
2. Henry IV, Part II -- Kate Percy & Doll Tearsheet. I'm not exactly sure how getting these characters to interact would work but I'm fascinated by the things they might turn out to have in common.
3. Henry IV, Parts I & II -- Something in Bardolph-POV (the Boars' Head one). Scenarios in which Bardolph is secretly a spy/genius/wizard/superhero and way smarter than anybody else there are encouraged. This is, apparently, why I have "Bardolph is Batman?" scrawled in a notebook somewhere.
4. Henry V -- Henry's POV during this play, looking back at characters he's known in earlier plays who are no longer around. Either as literal ghosts or dream sequences welcome, or through flashback/narration/conversational references.

1. Henry V fic; FLUELLEN. I would prefer this to be gen, but really, I am open to nearly anything so long as it stars Fluellen. Something to do with his education and how that manifests in the camp or on the battlefield would please me inordinately, and I would LOVE an AU--particularly an AU in Britain's ardently colonial phase (how does Fluellen's Welshness help him to come to grips with the non-English identities in the British Empire?), but if you want Fluellen in space or Fluellen/Gower or Fluellen as a lady, those all sound pretty fantastic.
3. 1 Henry IV/Richard II fic; Hotspur and Kate! More than anything else, I want to see these two and their snark and their affection and their casual violence and how they know each other all the way down--but I've no preferences on premise or plot. Since those are generally the hard part, I'd like to establish that I LOVE AUs--a plot-based AU would be especially interesting here, 'What if Richard II hadn't been deposed' or 'What if Hotspur had been Henry IV's son rather than Northumberland's' or some such, but I am also craving space opera in a mean way.

Three prompts (all of which are basically romcoms, sorry):
1) The Sex Comedy of Charles the Dauphin and Joan la Pucelle. Their relationship is basically a sex comedy already, but when I did a readthrough recently I picked up on how Charles seriously doesn't even seem to notice when Joan is captured and killed, despite spending every time they are onstage together going "MY PENIS, I WANT TO PUT IT IN YOU :(((((". I also like how Joan lies. A lot. About everything. To everybody. I think Woman Who Wants Stuff And Lies A Lot And Is Actually Pretty Competent Once She Gets It is much more interesting and fun than Wide-Eyed Blinking Holy Waif and would much rather read a story about the former.
2) Obviously Margaret and Suffolk and their action-packed sexy plotting (as I have called it for the past two years, The Adventures of Unscrupulous Frenchwomen With Swords And Their Devoted, Almost-As-Unscrupulous Boyfriends). I especially like it when they hang out with Somerset and/or York, because I like Plantagenets with poor impulse control and bad insults.

1. What you want: Any of the following would be fantastic:
b) Realistic AU. King John. John's nephew Arthur survives his escape attempt--which doesn't make Arthur's situation one bit simpler.
c) Historical. Richard III. Cecily Neville and Margaret Anjou. Men can fight their battles with swords. For women of noble birth, struggling for the survival of their families, their children and their lives, battles are rarely as straightforward as sword fights. Sometimes the deadliest battles take place without anything that a man would deem a weapon.
c) AU. Richard II. This one is a gimme in case my person has trouble with the other requests. Any era, any setting, any genre. You can make it gen, het, slash, poly--whatever. You can focus on the main characters (I am a sucker for Richard/Anne, Richard/Robbie and Richard/Aumerle, as well as the problematic relationship between Henry and Richard) or the minor ones (the Duchess of Gloucester, Philippa [Robbie's ex], Langley, even Exton).
the_alchemist
b) Joan la Pucelle. Something semi-sympathetic to her, maybe, if that's possible without straying too far from the text. Maybe something covering her life before what we see in the play. How much of what she says does she believe? How much is actually true? Are her fiends 'real', or manifestations of something psychological? What prompted her to do something so odd as decide to lead an army?
c) I'm a Monarch ... Get Me Out of Here! AU in which a selection of histories characters (my top picks would probably include Richard III, Margaret of Anjou, Henry V, Henry VI, Jack Cade, Joan La Pucelle, and a Dauphin) are dumped somewhere remote as part of a reality TV gameshow. I can imagine odd alliances forming, which are quite different from the ones in the plays ...
