I feel rather awful because I read this fic when you first sent it to us to post and, although I absolutely loved it, completely forgot to comment on it!

Anyway, I started off, laughing hysterically, and then -- all of a sudden -- it turned into a tragedy. The whiplash genre-shift was positively brilliant, and works so well for this play and these characters, especially poor, dear Aumerle. I adore your Chaucer-voice, how observant and pragmatic he is. And, HOTSPUR AND CATULLUS. Is there a worse combination? I love that Kate hit him. And that he ended up wandering about like a kicked puppy until he ran into Chaucer. HEE.

And then there's the ending, which is a complete punch to the gut. Richard's tragedy seeping into everything and everyone around him. And the relationship you draw between him and Aumerle is a fascinating counterpoint to your other fic -- they're both about art and history and unavoidable truths and how a king's self-destructiveness spirals outward.
