Play: Henry V - Shakespeare
Rating: PG
Summary: After the Battle of Agincourt, the King tells his brother John of Falstaff's death. (Can be considered a continuation of Kingly Crowns of Gold, a little later in the brothers' relationship.)
Author's Note: Confession: I have only seen Kenneth Branagh's version of Henry V, and only skimmed the text, so apologies if Hal and John in fact have a giant conversation on this topic in the middle of the play! (Another note at the end.)
"I dare swear, had he been on the field, we would have heard nought but how he slew a dozen – nay, a score! – of the fiercest Frenchman with ne'er a pause for breath, impaled half a dozen more on but a single thrust of his sword, torn down at least a quartet of French standards, and rescued the both of us from an early grave! Aye, and he'd have the battle scars to prove it, to boot!"
