Right, another introduction. :)

I'm Kavita (known online as lareinenoire or some derivative thereof). I live in Ohio, although I spent the past year in Cambridge, working on my M.Phil.

Favourite history plays include Shakespeare's Richard III, Marlowe's Edward II, and Webster's Duchess of Malfi (yes, I know, it isn't technically a *history*, but it's certainly based on a fair bit of history, no less than any of the others). I adored the bizarrely Fascist version of Richard with Ian McKellen, but I generally adore Ian McKellen, so that's not altogether surprising. Still need to find a copy of Duchess, as not too many people seem to perform it these days. Le sigh.

That's all I can think of at the moment. But I'm quite happy to find havens for historical geekery. ::grin::

Oh, Edward II! I love that play. And McKellen, for that matter. I wish I could have seen him play Edward II -- and my particular favorite, Richard II -- back in the seventies, never mind that it was a decade before I was born.

I seem to recall that the Stratford Festival in Ontario is going to stage The Duchess of Malfi next year; I heard it from someone who didn't seem excited about this prospect, but I find that to be cause for much glee. It's a marvelous play.

Ooooh, Stratford. I really want to make it up there to see Edward II this year, but damnable finances keep getting in the way. I've heard stories about McKellen's performance, and seen photographs...wow. Just wow.
