OMG, John. You are a giant git, but there are good reasons for it, and I can just flutter my hands around and be generally useless. I really like the way you've written John, literally. He's intentionally and hopelessly steadfast and even though he doesn't express himself, you do so *beautifully.*
There are so many really perfect lines, but this one makes my heart sing, John knelt beside his father's bedside, head bowed. "Health, peace, and happiness to my royal father," he forced out, and immediately regretted it – it was a foolish thing to say to a dying man, considering, but he couldn't ask him what he really wanted to know – do you know what I did? are you proud?
OH JOHN. IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT; THESE THINGS ARE OBVIOUSLY HEREDITARY. Which is actually how I feel about his rebellion-quelling tactics, so I suppose that's alright.
